W A N T E D :
People (any age) interested in a “starting up” a Manx Folk Dance Group and an accompanying Cheiley Band.
Anywhere in Queensland, Northern New South Wales or Norfolk Island – You do not need to be a member of the Queensland Manx Society.
2016 is “The Year of the Isle of Man” at the Australian Celtic Festival, Glen Innes, New South Wales. It would be nice to have some Manx Dancers to join in and help raise the Manx Profile. We may not be able to put a formal group of performers together, but the Welsh Folk Dancers from Newcastle, New South Wales will be performing some Manx dances as formal entertainers and we can enhance the experience by joining in at appropriate times.
I am currently working on a training program using published dances and music (including lesson plans etc.), so anybody with dance-music-teaching experience is welcome to volunteer their expertise.
The Manx word Cheiley [Ceili in Irish, Ceilidh in Scots – all pronounced “Kay-lee”] means “together” or “one another”, and is often associated with groups of people socialising (that is …partying).
Please contact the Queensland Manx Society through the “Contact” Page if you are interested in learning, teaching, supervising, supporting or watching Manx Folk Dancing.
Cheers,
David Bayliss
